1. Introduction

At CheckVehicle.AI (operated by Dot Squad Ltd, hereinafter referred to as "we", "us", or "our"), we are committed to providing the most accurate, reliable, and up-to-date vehicle history information in the United Kingdom.

To stand behind the quality of our data, we offer a Data Guarantee of up to £30,000 ("Guarantee") to qualifying private individual buyers, protecting you against direct financial losses resulting from certain specified database inaccuracies.

This Guarantee is not an insurance policy, but rather a voluntary commitment to our valued private consumers. Because this is a high-value guarantee, it is subject to strict eligibility criteria, limits, and exclusions to protect our business against fraudulent, negligent, or speculative claims.

2. Who is Covered (Eligibility)

This Guarantee is strictly limited to private individuals purchasing a vehicle for personal use.

To qualify for protection under this Guarantee, you must meet all of the following conditions:

  • Private Consumer Status: You must be a private individual purchasing a UK-registered vehicle solely for personal, non-commercial use.
  • Age & Residency: You must be at least 17 years old and a permanent resident of the United Kingdom at the time of the check and vehicle purchase.
  • Paid Tier Reports: You must have purchased a qualifying fully paid comprehensive guaranteed tier report directly from our website. Free basic checks or non-guaranteed tiers or promotional summaries are strictly excluded from any guarantee coverage.
  • Timing of the Check: You must have purchased the report and reviewed the data prior to acquiring the vehicle, and no more than five (5) calendar days before the physical purchase date. Checks run after you have acquired, agreed to buy, or paid for the vehicle are strictly excluded.
  • Active User Account: You must be the original purchaser of the report, linked to a verified and active account on the website. This Guarantee is personal to you and cannot be assigned, transferred, or sold to any subsequent owner or third party.

3. Strict Exclusions (When We Will NOT Pay)

To prevent abuse, protect our platforms, and ensure fair coverage, this Guarantee will be completely void and invalid under any of the following circumstances:

3.1 Motor Trade Involvement

If you, your agent, the seller, or anyone facilitating the transaction is involved in the motor trade in any capacity (including but not limited to vehicle dealerships, brokers, mechanics, salvage agents, vehicle restorers, or commercial fleet managers), no coverage is provided under this Guarantee.

3.2 Cloned or "Ringed" Vehicles

This Guarantee covers database accuracy regarding the specific registration plate and chassis number (VIN) checked. It does not cover cloned or "ringed" vehicles, which are stolen or Salvage vehicles that have had their physical number plates, VIN plates, or chassis stamps forged or swapped to match a clean vehicle record. It is your sole responsibility to physically verify the vehicle's authenticity.

3.3 Lack of Reasonable Buyer Diligence

You must act as a prudent and reasonable buyer. No payment will be made if:

  • Mismatched Identifiers: You failed to physically inspect and verify that the chassis number (VIN) stamped on the actual vehicle chassis, the VIN on the inner windscreen, and the V5C logbook serial number exactly match the details in our report.
  • Seller ID Verification: You failed to verify the seller’s identity by viewing a valid UK driving license or passport, confirming their details match the registered keeper name on the V5C logbook, and conducting the transaction and physical exchange at the seller’s private home address. Transactions conducted in public car parks, service stations, or neutral locations are strictly excluded.
  • Unreasonable Purchase Price: You purchased the vehicle for a price that was unreasonable, highly discounted, or significantly below its retail market value (specifically, a purchase price that is 30% or more below the average retail valuation of the vehicle at the time of purchase).
  • Missing MOT: The vehicle did not possess a valid, current MOT certificate in force at the exact date of your purchase.

3.4 Prior Knowledge or Suspicion

The Guarantee is void if you knew, should have reasonably known, or had any cause to suspect that there was a data discrepancy, an undisclosed outstanding finance agreement, or an unrecorded insurance write-off prior to purchasing the vehicle.

3.5 Database Upload & Administrative Delays

Our reports compile third-party registry records in real time. We are not liable for, and this Guarantee does not cover, database latency or delayed reporting from external agencies (for example, if a vehicle was written off or reported stolen to the police, but the insurance company or police force did not upload or register that data until after the exact time your report was generated).

4. Scope of Coverage (What is Covered)

Subject to the eligibility criteria, exclusions, and financial limits, this Guarantee applies strictly to direct financial losses arising from database inaccuracies in the following three (3) categories:

4.1 Outstanding Finance

If our paid report states that the vehicle has "No Outstanding Finance," but it is subsequently discovered that a legally binding active finance agreement (such as a Hire Purchase or Conditional Sale agreement) was in place with an authorized UK financial institution at the exact time of the check, resulting in the finance company claiming title or demanding settlement.

4.2 Insurance Write-Off Status (Total Loss)

If our paid report states that the vehicle has not been written off, but it is subsequently discovered that the vehicle had been officially categorized as an insurance write-off (Category A, Category B, Category S, or Category N) by a UK insurance company prior to the date of your check.

4.3 Police Stolen Database

If our paid report states that the vehicle is "Not Stolen," but it is subsequently confirmed that the vehicle was actively recorded as stolen on the National Police Computer at the exact time of your check, resulting in police seizure or title reclamation.

5. Excluded Data Categories

For the avoidance of doubt, this Guarantee does not cover inaccuracies, errors, or omissions regarding:

  • MOT test history, advisory notes, or failures.
  • Mechanical faults, structural safety, roadworthiness, or general physical wear and tear.
  • Odometer tamperings, mileage differences, or clocking indicators.
  • Electric vehicle (EV) battery health, capacity, or performance.
  • Number of previous keepers, import/export dates, or colour changes.
  • Vehicle valuation estimates, road tax costs, or fuel consumption data.

6. How Payout Values are Calculated

We aim to compensate for genuine financial losses, up to our maximum coverage cap. The payout value under an approved claim is strictly limited and will be calculated as the lowest of the following amounts:

  1. The Actual Financial Loss: The precise cost to settle the outstanding finance agreement, or the difference in the vehicle's retail value caused by the undisclosed write-off status.
  2. The Retail Market Value: The retail value of the vehicle at the exact time the claim is submitted, determined by standard independent trade valuation guides.
  3. The Purchase Price: The actual, documented purchase price you paid for the vehicle.
  4. The Guarantee Cap: The maximum payout limit of £30,000.

Exclusion of Consequential Losses

We are not liable under this Guarantee for any consequential, indirect, secondary, or incidental losses of any kind. This means we will not compensate you for:

  • Loss of vehicle use, car hire costs, towing charges, or recovery fees.
  • Lost wages, travel expenses, hotel bookings, or business-related losses.
  • Legal fees, emotional distress, or inconvenience.

7. Claim Process & Obligations

If you discover a data discrepancy that you believe qualifies for a claim under this Guarantee, you must follow our strict claim procedure:

7.1 Notify Us in Writing

You must notify our claims team in writing within thirty (30) calendar days of first discovering the inaccuracy or receiving a claim/demand from a finance company, police force, or third party. All claims must be submitted within twelve (12) months from the date you purchased the CheckVehicle.AI report.

7.2 Provide Required Documentation

You must supply the following documents to our support team through the contact page to initiate a claim:

  • Your original report reference number.
  • Proof of purchase for the report showing payment from your user account.
  • A copy of the physical vehicle purchase invoice or receipt showing the amount paid, date, and seller's signature.
  • Proof of payment to the seller (e.g. bank transfer confirmation).
  • A copy of the V5C logbook showing the registered keeper details.
  • Formal evidence of the inaccuracy (e.g. a seizure notice from the police, or a formal reclamation letter and settlement statement from a finance company).
  • A copy of the seller’s identity verification (e.g., photo of passport/driving license taken at purchase).

7.3 Cooperate and Allow Physical Inspection

You must cooperate fully with our claims investigators. This includes providing access for us or our designated agents to physically inspect the vehicle, verify VIN stamps, and examine the vehicle condition if required. Failure to cooperate fully will result in immediate claim rejection.

8. Subrogation (Transfer of Recovery Rights)

If we approve and pay a claim under this Guarantee, you agree that you automatically transfer and assign to Dot Squad Ltd all of your legal rights of recovery against the seller of the vehicle, the finance institution, or any other third party who defrauded or misled you.

You must sign all necessary legal documents and cooperate fully with us, at our expense, to enable us to pursue legal proceedings to recover the payout from the responsible parties.

9. Governing Law

This Data Guarantee and any disputes arising out of or in connection with it are governed exclusively by the laws of England and Wales. Any legal claims, disputes, or proceedings must be brought under the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
